If you find the right way, even snow will catch fire.
(Uzbek folk proverb)
When the President of Uzbekistan, Mr. Shavkat Mirziyoyev, held talks with the Taliban religious movement, whose activities were banned in the Russian Federation, many accused him of short‑sightedness, loudly declaring: “Mirziyoyev is making compromises and holding negotiations with religious‑terrorist organizations!”
But look at what happened: as soon as the United States withdrew its troops, the Taliban movement seized control of Afghanistan in just two weeks.
And it was precisely thanks to President Mirziyoyev’s far‑sighted policy and the timely application of political tactics that, after the US withdrew from Afghanistan, the terrible breach of the political dam — which had barely held back the accumulated flow of militants and refugees for a quarter of a century — was prevented. A flow that could surge like lava, destroying everything in its path, heading towards Central Asia, including Uzbekistan, and then to the Russian Federation, where there are regions with populations that practice Islam. The uniqueness of President Mirziyoyev’s political tactics lies in the fact that they thwarted the evil plans of third forces that were intimidating the countries of Central Asia, including our Independent Uzbekistan, shouting into a tin horn: “Run, the Taliban are coming!”
Following the negotiations organized at the initiative of the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the religious movement “Taliban” declared that from now on there will never be war in Afghanistan. This is the result of President Mirziyoyev’s political activities.
If you remember, when Shavkat Mirmanovich came to power, the first thing he did was to restore Uzbekistan’s socio‑political, economic and cultural ties with neighbouring fraternal countries. This was one of the most important measures to unite the peoples of our common home — the Central Asian region.
However, the political upheavals taking place in the world and posing a threat to the Central Asian region did not stop there.
A bloody war broke out between Russia and Ukraine, and the ominous shadow of this aggressive war once again began to loom over the Central Asian region, in particular over Kazakhstan and other countries in the region.
During this period, President Mirziyoyev, disregarding the threats and intimidation from some aggressively hostile forces, boldly signed a decree on the rehabilitation of the Jadids — enlighteners and progressive representatives of the Uzbek intelligentsia who were unjustly executed during the Stalinist repressions. The Jadids dreamed of ensuring that our people would also be among the educated, enlightened, and civilized peoples of the world.
According to a decree of the President of Uzbekistan, museums were established in Tashkent to tell the story of the life and work of the Jadids; plays dedicated to them were staged; and films were made. Only a leader who truly loves his people and his nation and is ready to even sacrifice himself for the sake of preserving the country’s national independence and territorial integrity, like the brave Sultan Jaloliddin Manguberdi, is capable of such courage.
Recently, at the initiative of the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, in the capital of our homeland, a Declaration on an important strategic partnership and eternal friendship was signed between the peoples of Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan — whose languages, fiction, national music, and song art are similar to each other like twins.
The signing of the Declaration on mutual strategic cooperation and eternal friendship between Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan is, for ill‑wishers, a political step that is more significant than our country’s joining the NATO military alliance.
They fear the friendship and cohesion of united peoples just as much as they fear powerful countries possessing nuclear weapons.
There is a proverb: “The wolf eats those who are divided.”
People or groups are vulnerable when they are alone, and it is much easier for an enemy to defeat them if they are divided and do not support each other. True strength lies only in unity and cohesion.
That is why some petty and foolish “screamers‑parrots,” suffering from the disease of “racial superiority,” began to shout, falling into panic and losing their composure when they saw that the peoples of Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan were uniting, turning into a powerful force.
Thus, another unexpected political tactic by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev put in their place the aggressively minded characters who had looked down on the countries of Central Asia with a condescending and sidelong glance.
The timely and wise decision made by President Mirziyoyev also became one of the important steps on the path to preventing a possible bloody war and devastation—not only for Uzbekistan, but also for the neighboring fraternal countries of the Central Asian region.
Perhaps this is precisely what our people’s wise proverb means: “If you find the right way, even snow will catch fire.”
Such a President should be appreciated.
